A heads-up for EU postcrossers: as of 12 September, we have temporarily suspended shipping orders to countries in the European Union. We’re sorry about this change.
Why is EU shipping being suspended?
The EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces additional requirements for businesses sending packaged goods into the European Union.
While these rules are intended to improve the sustainability and management of packaging waste, some of the compliance obligations are particularly difficult to accommodate for a very small shop like ours. Dealing with separate registrations and compliance arrangements across 27 EU countries we ship to creates costs and administrative work that are hugely disproportionate to the small number and value of orders we send.
Because of this, continuing to ship to EU countries under the new requirements is unfortunately not feasible for us at the moment.
We very much hope that workable solutions for small businesses will become available soon and that this can be a temporary pause rather than a permanent change. We’ll keep monitoring the situation.
If you’d like to understand more about why these requirements are particularly challenging for small traders, this article from Packaging Europe explains the issue well. There is also a petition calling for a moratorium on cross-border EPR fees for EU micro-businesses for anyone who would like to support changes that make these requirements more workable for small traders.
We’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting the Postcrossing shop.
Shipping policy
DELIVERY TIMES
It usually takes 3–7 days to fulfill an order, after which it’s shipped out. The shipping time depends on your location, but can be estimated as follows:
- USA: 3–4 business days
- Europe: 6–8 business days
- Australia: 2–14 business days
- Japan: 4–8 business days
- Other: 10–20 business days
You'll have a better delivery time estimate during checkout when enter your address. You’ll also receive an email with tracking link when your order ships out.
Please note that international orders may have delays due to customs, which are outside of our control.
SHIPPING COSTS
Postcrossing works with an on-demand order fulfillment company with facilities in the USA, Europe and other locations, so shipping will depend on where you are and the location where your order is being fulfilled from. This means that our system won't know how much your shipping will be until items are added to your cart. To calculate shipping, just add the items to your cart and enter an address, and our system will do the rest!
ORDERS NOT ARRIVING
If you haven’t received your order after some time, please help us out by doing the following:
- Check your shipping confirmation email for any mistakes in the delivery address
- Ask your local post office if they have your package
- Stop by your neighbors in case the courier left the package with them
If the shipping address was correct, and the package wasn't left at the post office or at your neighbor’s, get in touch with us at shop@postcrossing.com with your order number so we can look into it.
If you did find a mistake in your delivery address and the shipping is returned to us, we can send you a replacement order, but you’ll have to pay for the re-shipment.
CUSTOMS
Depending on where you are, your orders are produced and shipped from the facility that can do it most efficiently, which may be located in Europe, USA or other locations. Although we will do our best effort to produce and send your order from the facility closest to you, this is not guaranteed.
Therefore, additional customs, taxes or fees can occur on international orders. These costs are not within our control and are assessed and charged by your local customs office. Customs policies vary widely for every country so please check with your local customs office directly to see if they apply duties and taxes to your purchases.
